Malta is one of the most popular tourist destinations due to the fact that there is many beaches around the country for tourists to sun bathe, a number of museums and historic places to stay in awe and convenience since the country is small.

While people often come to Malta for the short stay rather than the long stay, staying in Malta is quite straight forward. However, you still need to prepare your itinerary and documents properly before the holiday. For one to avoid wasting time during the holiday and to also make sure you get the best out of it.

In this article we will go through  various tips on what to prepare and what to expect coming to Malta this summer.

Check what COVID-19 related documents you need

While we are in a better place than we were a year ago, there are still restrictions in certain countries when you are coming to Malta and back home. Important that you take note of the situation and ask the authorities what you  need.

From some countries a digital vaccine support is enough but from other countries a test might be required together with the passenger locator form. This is extremely important to avoid situations.

Budgeting

The local currency in Malta is Euro. Credit/Debit cards such as Visa and MasterCard are widely accepted in supermarkets, restaurants and cafeterias. However, don’t depend only on credit cards as some small shops still accept only cash.

In terms of cost of living, Malta is fairly balanced. Of course, you will find expensive places but you will also find moderate prices nearby. And cheap too. It’s not like you have to go to a different area to do so.

Another cost which is fairly cheaper than other European countries is the bus, You can use it from 2 euro per 2 hours or do a tourist card to save money. Taxi prices are quite expensive considering the country is small.

Service and sitting fees in Malta don’t really exist yet, however, its common to give a 10% tip to the waiter.

Plan an itinerary

Malta is small by size but the options are plentiful. If you come to the country unprepared, you could end up wasting a lot of time.

There are a number of beaches to visit, historical museums and different islets as part of the country. Having an itinerary will reduce the stress during your holiday.

Our recommendations are to definitely keep a day for Gozo and another for Comino;s popular Blue Lagoon. To visit the number of museums and cathedrals around the country you need approximately two days. Then there is the temples which shouldn’t be missed either.

Tour Guide

The assumption is that you don’t need a tour guide to go around the country. If you are a history buff, a tour guide it’s definitely something that you need.

The history of certain places and the country itself is one of the biggest in the country and to make sure you don’t lose out on any detail, the a tour guide is the best option for some places.

Stay at St Hotels

St hotels are a collection of apartments and hotels around the Gzira/Sliema area. The hotels and apartments are at a budget price giving you more flexibility to spend money on other areas.

Being in the Gzira/Sliema area, convenience it’s at your feet. Sliema is called by tourists as the tourist capital city of Malta due to the fact that every 5 minutes walk you will find a pharmacy, shop, restaurant or cafeteria.

Last but not least, you can have a stroll on the biggest promenade in the country from Gzira to St Julians by the sea.
