Spring Events in Malta 2026: What’s On During Your Stay?
Spring is a wonderful time to visit Malta. The weather is mild, and the countryside is at its greenest, with many cultural events and local celebrations taking place across the islands.
If you are planning a trip in 2026, here are some of the events happening in Malta during spring.
Malta Biennale 2026 (11 March – 29 May)
The Malta Biennale 2026 is returning after the success of its first edition in 2024, bringing contemporary art into some of the islands’ most historic places. Visitors can explore exhibitions in Valletta, Vittoriosa (Birgu), and Gozo.
The 2026 edition follows the theme “CLEAN | CLEAR | CUT”, and is led by international curator Rosa Martínez. The idea behind the theme is to encourage artists to look closely at modern society and the world around them. Many works will explore ideas connected to environment, identity, and culture.
Visitors can expect:
- 28 national and thematic pavilions, bringing together artists and curators from different countries
- A wide range of art forms, including paintings, sculptures, installations, and live performance pieces
- Exhibitions inside historic buildings and museums, giving visitors the chance to experience art in unique cultural spaces
For visitors spending spring in Malta, the Malta Biennale offers a chance to experience contemporary art while exploring some of the islands’ most important historic sites.
Spring Equinox at Mnajdra Temples (19 – 22 March)
Each year in March, a special moment takes place at the Mnajdra Temples, one of Malta’s most important prehistoric sites. Around the spring equinox (19–22 March), the rising sun shines directly into the central passage of the temple’s South building.
This alignment has taken place for more than 5,000 years, with the builders having carefully positioned the temple so the sun would mark the start of spring. These seasonal changes were important for early farming communities living on the islands.
The event includes:
- Watching the first sunlight illuminate the temple passage
- A guided tour of the Mnajdra Temples archaeological site
- Beautiful coastal views toward the nearby islet of Filfla
Mużika Mużika: Celebrating Maltese Music (19 – 21 March)
Mużika Mużika returns in spring 2026 with three evenings dedicated to Maltese-language music. The festival is taking place 19–21 March 2026 at the MFCC in Ta’ Qali and is organised by Festivals Malta. It is now in its sixth edition.
The event focuses on original Maltese songs and the artists who create them. Visitors can expect:
- 16 finalist songs performed by Maltese singers
- A live orchestra accompanying each performance
- A classics night, where well-known Maltese songs are performed again by veteran artists
Freedom Day Regatta (31 March)
Freedom Day in Malta takes place on 31 March each year. The national holiday marks the end of the British military presence on the islands.
Many events take place around the Grand Harbour. One of the main highlights is the Freedom Day Regatta, held in the waters near Fort St Angelo in Birgu, where traditional Maltese rowing teams compete in colourful boats.
Visitors can enter Fort St Angelo for a small admission fee and enjoy:
- Free guided tours of the historic fort, where visitors can learn about its naval history
- Family-friendly maritime activities taking place during the day
- Food stalls and harbour views overlooking the regatta
The celebrations offer a lively way to experience Maltese history and maritime traditions.
Easter Week in Malta (29 March – 5 April)
Easter Week in Malta brings religious traditions and street processions across the islands. The week begins with Palm Sunday (29 March) and leads into Good Friday, when large statues showing scenes from the Passion of Christ move slowly through towns such as Żebbuġ, Mosta, and Birgu.
Everything changes on Easter Sunday (5 April). Church bells ring loudly, and bands play lively marches as the statue of the Risen Christ is carried through the streets.

Bloom Festival (17 – 20 April)
Bloom Festival Malta 2026 is taking place 17–20 April at Ta’ Qali National Park, bringing together music and community in a relaxed outdoor setting.
Across several stages, visitors can enjoy a varied music programme, with music continuing late into the night. Genres include reggae, dub, dancehall, house, techno, and live performances.
Festival highlights include:
- Live performances by local and international artists across several stages
- A curated market selling handmade goods, clothing, jewellery, and wellness items
- Food stalls and a wellness area with activities and workshops
Camping is also available on-site. Many visitors choose to stay overnight and enjoy the full Bloom Festival Malta experience.
